Oman Launches Ecosystem Readiness Lab to Accelerate Green Hydrogen Future

Muscat, 2 September 2024 — The Ecosystem Readiness Lab, a pivotal event to advance Oman’s national green hydrogen objectives for 2030, kicked off today, marking a significant milestone in the country’s energy transition. This two-week multi-sector lab aims to lay the groundwork for Oman’s leadership in green hydrogen production, organized by Hydrom in collaboration with the Oman Vision 2040 Implementation Follow-up Unit and the Ministry of Energy and Minerals.

Presiding over the opening, Eng. Salim Nasser AL-Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals, highlighted Oman’s unwavering commitment to green hydrogen as a cornerstone of its energy transition strategy. “The Ecosystem Readiness Lab is not just about preparing our infrastructure; it’s about forging a unified, forward-looking strategy that aligns every sector of our economy towards a sustainable and prosperous future,” he remarked.

The lab’s workstreams will delve into five critical areas: construction and engineering, skilled labor, regulatory frameworks, logistics, and local content. Each stream is dedicated to ensuring Oman’s infrastructure and industries are fully equipped to meet the ambitious green hydrogen production targets for 2030.

Eng. Abdulaziz AL-Shidhani, Managing Director of Hydrom, emphasized the importance of these sessions: “As we move towards our goal of producing over 1 million metric tons per annum by 2030, our focus is on ensuring that every aspect of the ecosystem is fully prepared for the challenges and opportunities ahead, laying the groundwork for long-term economic resilience for Oman.”

The Ecosystem Readiness Lab represents a significant stride in Oman’s green hydrogen journey, ensuring the country’s transition is inclusive, transformative, and firmly anchored in its Vision 2040 aspirations.
