Conference of World Hydrogen Leaders, MENA

Dubai | 15 – 17 of March 2022

The Oman Hydrogen Centre young researcher attended the second annual conference of World Hydrogen Leaders MENA, in Dubai, which was held for two days 15 – 17 of March. It was co-hosted by World Hydrogen Leaders, Dii Desert Energy and the MENA Hydrogen Alliance.

This two-day conference covered different areas of the green hydrogen energy sector. It discussed market trends, strategies, and business opportunities for green hydrogen in the MENA region. A number of leading case studies, projects, and investments were presented from different companies and countries. Furthermore, the evaluation of the opportunities for international collaboration to unlock MENA’s carbon-free hydrogen potential was discussed.

There is great promise for the MENA region to deliver local low-carbon hydrogen benefiting from the high and strong solar and wind energy capacity in the MENA region. Moreover, the EU’s ambitious green hydrogen targets make hydrogen export essential.

“The MENA region will be one of the crucial green hydrogen production centers but more collaboration between value chain stakeholders is needed to accelerate the development of the industry.”

As a collaboration effort between OHC and the Dii Desert Energy team, OHC young researcher  was asked to write a short summary of the key takeaways from the conference, which was a great opportunity to develop our young researchers and showcase OHC young members.
